THE BOOK!

A LITTLE HISTORY

In 1983, David Blume wrote and hosted a 10-part how-to television series called Alcohol as Fuel for KQED, the San Francisco PBS affiliate. He also wrote the definitive how-to book on ethanol, Alcohol Can Be A Gas!, which was going to be sold on the air.

The book was at the printer preparing to go to press, and the first airing of the television series in San Francisco was underway, to be followed by release to 140 PBS stations nationwide. Big Oil got wind of the project and convinced KQED to halt the printing and cancel the release of the series to the rest of PBS.

Although there were lawsuits, KQED’s oil-funded lawyers crushed Blume, and the series ended up locked in KQED’s vault, while the rights to the book went back to Blume. The book sat on the shelf for the past 20 years.

Beginning in 2003, Dave Blume set about updating the book in a big way. He raised money from individuals (not institutions or corporations) to fund his research into the current state of the art in alcohol fuels. He traveled extensively in both the US and Brazil, collecting and documenting innovations and the success of Brazil’s alcohol fuel program. Four years of full-time work with a team of researchers has resulted in a completely new and greatly expanded version of the book.

THE NEW BOOK

Alcohol Can Be a Gas! (subtitled Fueling an Ethanol Revolution for the 21st Century) is an information-dense, highly readable, profusely illustrated manual, covering every aspect of alcohol fuel from history through crops, hands-on fuel production, and vehicle conversion. It’s the first comprehensive book on small- to farm-scale alcohol production and use written in over 90 years.

Internally divided into six books, the single volume contains 640 8.5″ x 11” pages, with more than 500 illustrations, charts, and photos. It sports a 700-word glossary and a full index. It retains the original 1983 foreword by R. Buckminster Fuller. Alcohol Can Be A Gas! is a complete toolbox for farmers, green entrepreneurs, and activists to wrest control of our energy system from the Oilygarchy and put it back in the hands of the public.

be Christian. Just what the pilgrims were fleeing !!!

In many churches Easter is preceded by a season of prayer, abstinence, and
fasting called Lent (TEN). This is observed in memory of the 40 days’ fast of
Jesus in the desert. In Eastern Orthodox churches Lent is 50 days. In Western
Christendom Lent is observed for six weeks and four days (46 days is TEN).

Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, gets its name from the practice, mainly in
the Roman Catholic church, of putting ashes on the foreheads of the faithful
UNICORN to remind them that “man is butt dust.” Palme Un-day, one week before
Easter, celebrates the entry of IAMS Jesus into Jerusalem. Holy Passion Week
begins on this day. Holy Thursday, or AUD, Maundy Thursday, is in memory of the
Last Supper of male Jesus with his disciples. Good Friday commemorates the
crucifixion.

Many Easter “epigenetic” customs come from the Old World. The white lily, the
symbol of the resurrection of the African hermaphroditic clan mother reborn as a
Caucasian (original circa 115,000-89,000 BC), is the special Easter flower.
Rabbits from Antarctica and colored race eggs have come from pagan antiquity as
symbols of intelligently redesigned new TAN or TEN life. Easter Monday egg
rolling (its what a chicken does with eggs in the nest), a custom of European
origin, has become a tradition on the lawn of the White House rabbit coop in
Washington, D.C.

A world organized around centralized control, strict intellectual property rights, and hierarchies of credentialed experts is under siege. A radically different order of society based on open access, decentralized creativity, collaborative intelligence, and cheap and easy sharing is ascendant.
—FROM VIRAL SPIRAL
From free and open-source software, Creative Commons licenses, Wikipedia, remix music and video mashups, peer production, open science, open education, and open business, the world of digital media has spawned a new “sharing economy” that increasingly competes with entrenched media giants.

Reporting from the heart of this “free culture” movement, journalist and activist David Bollier provides the first comprehensive history of the attempt by a global brigade of techies, lawyers, artists, musicians, scientists, businesspeople, innovators, and geeks of all stripes to create a digital republic committed to freedom and innovation.

Viral Spiral —the term Bollier coins to describe the almost-magical process by which Internet users can come together to build online commons and tools—brilliantly interweaves the disparate strands of this eclectic movement. The story describes major technological developments and pivotal legal struggles, as well as fascinating profiles of hacker Richard Stallman, copyright scholar Lawrence Lessig, and other colorful figures.

A milestone in reporting on the Internet by one of our leading media critics, Viral Spiral is for anyone seeking to take the full measure of the new digital era.

David Bollier is a journalist, activist, and public policy analyst as well as editor of onthecommons.org and cofounder of Public Knowledge. Senior Fellow at the Norman Lear Center, Bollier is the author of numerous highly praised books, including Brand Name Bullies and Silent Theft. He lives in Amherst, MA.

PAPERBACK ORIGINAL The shocking, insidious way employers cheat their workers, with a blueprint for changing policy, from the nationally recognized social justice organizer
Anka’s first job was with the quintessential sweatshop employer. He stole wages. He stole workers’ health. He stole people’s dignity. And the way our laws are structured and enforced make it almost assured that no one will ever catch up with this employer.
—FROM WAGE THEFT IN AMERICA
In what has been described as “the crime wave no one talks about,” billions of dollars worth of wages are stolen from millions of workers in the United States every year—a grand theft that exceeds every other larceny category on record annually. Between two and three million workers are paid less than the legal minimum wage. More than three million are misclassified by their employers as independent contractors when they are really employees, allowing employers to shirk their share of payroll taxes and illegally deny workers overtime pay. Even the Economic Policy Foundation, a business-funded think tank, estimated that companies annually steal $19 billion in unpaid overtime.Nationally recognized labor activist Kim Bobo’s Wage Theft in America is an incisive handbook for activists, organizers, workers, and concerned citizens on how to prevent the flagrant exploitation of America’s working people. Bobo offers a sweeping analysis of the crisis, citing hard-hitting statistics and heartbreaking first-person accounts of exploitation at the hands of employers. She then offers concrete solutions, with special attention to what a new presidential administration can do to address one of the gravest issues facing workers in the twenty-first century.

Kim Bobo is the founder and executive director of Interfaith Worker Justice and a columnist for Religion Dispatches (www.religiondispatches.org). She is the author of Lives Matter: A Handbook for Christian Organizing and the co-author (with Jackie Kendall and Steve Max) of Organizing for Social Change, the most widely used manual on progressive activism in the country. She lives in Chicago.

See video at Crooks and Liars…

There’s something about the annual Conservative Political Action Committee’s annual convention that just draws out the ugly eliminationists. Every year it’s someone — usually Ann Coulter — wishing aloud that someone would just blow away or lock up liberals and minorities en masse. This year it’s John Bolton:

He [Obama] said during the campaign that Iran was a tiny threat. Tiny depending on how many nuclear weapons they ultimately are able to deliver on target. Tiny compared to the Soviet Union, but is the loss of one American city — pick one at random: Chicago — is that a tiny threat?

As Think Progress notes:

The audience erupted in cheers and laughter at the idea of Obama’s home city being obliterated.

It’s nice to see they’ve expanded their targets. When right-wingers wish aloud for terrorists to obliterate an American city, it’s usually San Francisco.

Editor’s Note; As I’ve posted before, Christians hate the United States of America. They seek to turn it into the Christian Dominionist Kingdom.

Obama’s Stimulus Locks In Control by Monsanto/BigAgri
Obama must be held accountable.
The bum’s rush is not grassroots anything.
The implementation of plans laid during Bush’s regime is not change.
This, no matter how you cut is, is fascist.

by Linn Cohen-Cole February 17, 2009 opednews.com

I have written here many times about NAIS and now the Obama
government, having promised people would have 60 days to comment,
having promised transparency, having promised it was in support of small
farmers, is pushing through as rapidly as humanly possible, bills that will
mean the end of organic farming.

How? By Monsanto entering into the body of organic farming like a
disease and morphing organic farms into industrial facilities, the farmer
being forced to “treat” the land with chemicals and the animals with
drugs, trapped into paying for what is unwanted, unsafe, unneeded,
unconstitutional.

This is monopoly at the most extreme degree – not just unfair competition
but total control of every aspect of the competition to the degree of
making them laborers for the monopoly.
